OFFICIAL: Arsenal Have A New No.10 And Also Ban Vuvuzelas At Emirates
Robin Van Persie has officially changed his shirt number from 11 to 10. He takes up the number vacated by William Gallas and follows in the foot-steps of fellow dutchman Dennis Bergkamp who achieved legendary status at Arsenal wearing the famous No.10 during his time at the club.
I am delighted we have a ‘proper’ No.10 again. I was not a big fan of Gallas wearing it, in fact it pi**ed me off. So to see Robin donning the famous number next season will be a welcome relief. Surprisingly Carlos Vela will be wearing Van Persie’s old No.11 shirt next season after changing from 12. Carlos is hardly regarded as a first-team regular yet but maybe this is a sign that Wenger is about to show more faith in the young Mexican.
Arsenal have also followed North London rivals Tottenham in banning the controversial Vuvuzelas from their stadium with immediate effect. A statement on Arsenal.com read:
Further to their hugely debated involvement at this summer’s World Cup Finals in South Africa, Arsenal Football Club has decided to forbid the use of vuvuzelas within Emirates Stadium with immediate effect.
This decision has been taken to ensure the enjoyment and safety of supporters on Matchdays, which is of paramount importance to the Club.
Can’t say I’m disappointed with the decision. At the World Cup they were a novelty at first but by the third or fourth match they were just plain annoying.
