jack wilshere injury

Afternoon Gooners. The Metro are reporting today that midfielder Jack Wilshere is on target to be fit for the start of next season.

Wilshere has missed around 10 months of football after picking up an innocuous ankle injury during a pre-season friendly with the New York Red Bulls last August.

Initially he was expected to miss only a couple of weeks but it soon became apparent the damage was more severe than first thought and the 20-year-old was ruled out for five months after undergoing ankle surgery.

With a comeback in sight Wilshere then aggravated the problem in late January and was ruled out for the entire season. To further complicate matters, Jack also underwent surgery on a long-term knee complaint in May.

Wilshere to increase ball work

The Metro now claim that despite his injury nightmares, the midfielder has been working hard all summer at Arsenal’s London Colney to maintain his fitness and is on course to be back in time to start the new season.

It’s understood that Wilshere will now step up his training regime, including more ball work, and he will meet with his specialist this week to discuss the best course of action to continue his rehabilitation, with the aim of taking part in Arsenal’s pre-season work.

It will be fantastic t have Wilshere back training for pre-season, but I’m not getting my hopes up just yet. A year is a long time to be on the sidelines and Jack will have to be patient and not rush back prematurely.

Let’s make sure he’s 100% ready before he’s back in amongst the first team and with a bit of luck he’ll be available for the start of the season. If he needs a few more weeks, give him them.

When he is back, it will be like having a new signing, and a damn good one at that!
