Robin van Persie’s future could be decided this week when he holds crunch talks with manager Arsene Wenger, according to the Daily Mail.

The Dutchman is still away on holiday with his family following Holland’s exit from this summers European championships but the Mail claim that he will speak to Wenger over the phone in the next few days.

It’s understood that the French boss is keen to speak with Van Persie directly without the players advisers present, as he tries desperately to persuade his captain to remain at the Emirates.

This will be the second round of talks after the 28-year-old met with Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis at the end of last season where it was decided that negotiations would be postponed until the end of Euro 2012, despite Arsenal offering a record three-year £130,000-a-week contract to the player.

The Mail report that Juventus have already had an offer of £8m rejected by the Gunners and are only willing to go as high as £12m due to the fact he has one year left on his current contract and is approaching his 29th birthday, while Premier League champions Manchester City are also expected to make their interest official this week.

However, Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has insisted the club has no intention of selling their star player.

‘He is away so we are not in any dialogue at all,’ he said. ‘We’re not in the remotest bit interested in selling him.’

Hill-Wood is quoted as saying in the Mail.
