Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed goalkeeper Hugo Lloris can leave the club for €20m (£16m) this summer, amid reports linking Arsenal and Tottenham with a move for the French ace.

The Daily Mail are one of several news outlets to suggest Arsenal are interested in signing the France skipper this summer with boss Arsene Wenger keen to add another goalkeeper to his ranks to contest with Wojciech Szczesny for the number one shirt.

However, the Sun claim it is in fact the Gunners north London rivals Tottenham who are chasing the 25-year-old stopper, as new boss Andre Villas-Boas looks to find a long-term replacement for the ageing Brad Freidel.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Lloris is available for €20m (£16m), which they feel is his market value, but warned that clubs will have to act fast if they want to land the talented keeper.

Aulas told the club’s website:

“A certain number of players were not good enough last season and will leave or at least be placed on the transfer list.

‘Hugo told me he would like to leave if an offer comes in from one of the biggest five clubs in Europe.

‘If one of these clubs makes an offer that matches his market value, in other words 20m (£16m) Euros then he can go.

‘If there is no offer before July 15 he will remain at the club for the coming season.

‘For the moment there has been no offer from Arsenal or anywhere else.’

Aulas is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail

FT Verdict

I can’t see Lloris ending up at either Arsenal or Tottenham this summer. Arsene Wenger is highly unlikely to spend that amount on a goalkeeper, especially given the development of Szczesny in recent seasons.

And Tottenham? Well they would love to sign Lloris, but judging by the presidents statements above, would you consider Spurs to be one of the top five clubs in Europe? Therefore, i think Lloris will still be at Lyon next season.
