Sagna Set For Early Return

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is on course for an early return after revealing he’s back in London and running, just two months after suffering a leg break.

Evening Arsenal fans. Amongst all the doom-and-gloom surrounding the future of captain Robin van Persie, some potential positive news seems to have gone relatively unnoticed.

Key Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is on course for an early return from injury after revealing he is already back in London and running without discomfort, just two months after suffering a nasty leg break.

Sagna sustained the break against Norwich on the final home game of last season when he was caught on the same spot where he had previously broken his leg against north London rivals Tottenham seven months earlier.

It was rotten luck for the Frenchman. I really can’t remember the last player to suffer two leg breaks in one season.

However, being the man he is, Bacary put the disappointment of missing out on Euro 2012 behind him and has spent the summer working hard on his rehabilitation.

The Evening Standard claim that hard work could well pay off as he may be fit in time for the start of the new season. It was initially feared Sagna may not be back until late September but it now appears he’s ahead of schedule after confirming on his official Twitter account that he’s back in London and is running again without pain.

“Back to my life in London after time off/rehab in middle east. I started running again without any pain.”

Sagna wrote on his Twitter account

For me, Sagna is vital for Arsenal. We really don’t have any back up for him and you could really see the difference in the team when he returned in late January – early February last season.

So with a bit of luck and as long as his recovery continues to be a smooth one, could we see Sagna in the Red & White against Sunderland on the opening day of the season? It’s probably a long shot as Arsene Wenger will most likely be overly cautious with him, given he broke the leg in the same place as before, but he might not be too far off come the middle of August.
