Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Linked With Two Strikers

Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic and Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski are both on Arsenal’s short list to replace want-away captain Robin van Persie

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Arsenal are linked with two strikers.

Robert Lewandowski

Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic and Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski are both on Arsenal’s short list to replace want-away captain Robin van Persie, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that the Gunners scouting team are set to meet next week at the club’s London Colney training ground where discussing possible replacements for van Persie will be top of their agenda.

The Mail believe that Jovetic and Lewandowski are both rated highly in north London having been watched by Arsenal scouts on several occasions last season, and both players will be discussed at the meeting.

Jovetic is a Montenegro international and has enjoyed two excellent seasons in Serie A with Fiorentina. However, Arsene Wenger may face stiff competition for the 22-year-old, who has been strongly linked with a £25m move to Chelsea this summer (source: Daily Mail).

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United thought to be close to signing him earlier in the summer (source: Guardian).

It remains to be seen whether either player would be capable of replacing van Persie though, with the Dutchman eager to secure his exit from the club before Arsenal leave for their Asia tour on July 24th.

FT Verdict

If Van Persie does go this summer, which is looking increasingly likely, we’re not going to be able to find a player of his quality to come straight in.

Both Jovetic or Lewandowski are fine talents and i would be happy with either of them at Arsenal. I’ll leave it in Wenger’s capable hands to find a suitable replacement for our out-going captain.

Whoever may come its not like they will find their feet next season, that basically rules us out of any trophies this coming season, and the next season some other influential player will announce his departure..(alex song or theo walcott)

What are u talking about? plenty of players have won trophies in their first season at a club. i just dont get all this fretting over van persie. he missed more chances than any other player in the league last season. his conversion rate is worse than bendtners. it is only the last 18 months he has stepped up to the plate. funny that just when u know contracts are nearing an end you wipe out 6 previous seasons of mediocrity and injuries by starting to show what u can do. then accuse the club of having no ambition. if rvp had the ambition in the previous 6 seasons he would have medals to show for it. if he had taken just one of his 5 goal scoring chances in the carling cup final against birmingham that would have been the start of things that just might have kept the likes of cesc and nasri at the club. as it is all 3 and clichy have contributed to one of the least successful spells in the clubs history and think that they are blameless. fuck off move on we dont need your type.

Ok really Song and Theo they are very replaceable song gives the ball away more than 10 times a game and Theo can’t run with the ball to save his life.

I would rather Fernando Llorente comes…..he is more lethal and has enough experience to not struggle with fitting in

We lose superstars every season and make superstars the same season. With city showing interest in rvp, i think a swap deal involving tevez would be welcomed but with his current wage, i think huntelaar will be a perfect nd a better replacement.

I prefer huntelaar, bring him on board so he can show rvp why he would have been the man 2 take the dutch far.rvp has simply failed 2 do so!

Arse should go and bring Carlos Tevez from Mancherster as Swarp Deal for RVP and collect some money and buy an attacking mindfider rather than going for a player who does not have premier League experience.

Would agree that Van Persie was excellent for us last season but its still the first season he’s been injury free. Arsenal have also brought in 2 nternational strikers to support him even with money restraints s would say let hm go know one person is bigger than the club.

We should nt b 2 concerned abt d striking department cos we hav d likes of podolski, giroud, gervinho, walcott nd the ox 2 handle dat position. We should b more concerned on d defensive department 2 avoid uncertain errors just lik d previous season. Wenger should b concerned more with signing a new deal wit walcott, den sign Jan vartoghen, Hugo iloris nd m’villa. However, bringing in a new striker in d likes of huntelar wouldnt b a bad idea after all wit d likes or rvp, bendtner, vela, park n chamakh leaving emirates dis summer. Have a wonderful day.

Since RVP is leaving, its not a bad idea in getting Huntelaar in as both RVP and him don’t get along, from the reports I read. Bringing in Vartoghen is also a good idea but I maintain taht we should sell Walcott. I have not seen hi play a really good game for arsenal, not withstanding the goals he scored. He really has no footballing brain.

I really don’t know what the bother is! If RVP wants to leave, so be it. He is a one season wonder! He is not TH14. What we need to do is look for a Cesc player for our midfield and bring in another CD who can play as a Right Back or CM. My concern has always been our right back position and I hope the reports about Sagna coming back in training are true. Otherwise, we will be open again like last season. Jenkinson is not ready to cover Sagna. Coquolin is a better cover than Jenkinson. As for Theo wanting to leave, SELL him before he becomes worse as a footballer. Ox will certainly surpass him in all departments and we have a few very good young players coming on stream. We are ARSENAL. We will survive and win trophies. I would rather have players who would play with their soul for the club than to have the Nasri, Adebayor and now RVP type. Roll on Arsenal.

Wenger should go and bring Fenaldo Liorente or Facao if he did not want to bring Carlos Tevez he should not even think of bring Hunteler to Arsenal he is not a good player.

Huntelaar isn’t a good player? Dutch international and scored 47/48 goals last season. Well you clearly are all about the big big names

So whats new Van the man is going ..no surprise, still no defenders etc signed.
Van was told to keep quiet so no heat on wenger and board so they sign two forwards who will be fine next season as usual why spend 25/30 million for an instant fix when 12million will do the job in 2years in the Europa league.
Qualifying for fourth place is all we can hope for SO why blame Van Persie
he only wants Arsenal to move forward and compete or at least try.

What a quality player leaving, but is not bigger than our darling club! Wenger splash the cash on the best and already made player. I prefer luwadoscky or ILORENTE!!

If u turn the clocks back 18 months. RVP was laying on the treatment table AGAIN whilst chamakh was banging in the goals. RVP at that time had only scored 73 goals in 6 seasons at the club having made just 140 starts plus 57 appearances as a sub. If anyone had said that he couldnt be replaced with similar or netter quality you would have laughed. however in the last 18 months he scores 59 goals 71 starts and 10 sub appearances

listen you guys are geting it all wrowng. The striker that will replace rvp is no other person than demba papi cisse. Come on gunners, that guy is sansational player not only as a striker but also as a creative midfielder. Didn?t you guys saw what he did last season. To me, that guy is even beter than rvp. Scoring wonder goals against top most clubs last season. He has epl experience he is also good in there, can play both leg and energetic. That guy is an arsenal material, mr wenger do fast and buy that guy before any other club do so

    • Scott

      July 6, 2012 at 12:31 pm

But Arsenal would be cisse’s 3rd club in a year and i believe that is not allowed

Wenger shld go for huntelaa to replace rvp,no player is bigger than Arsenal. With huntelaa taking rvp’s place both club and country,it will hot him to the blood’rvp’where ever he goes.

Wenger have seen this coming, rvp and theo leaving that’s why he brought in podolski and giroud.rvp and theo will be put to shame next season cos we are gunner win the epl and ucl.

    July 6, 2012 at 11:30 am

Arsenal Board must not put us to shame this time because we wnt prove to the world that we can do it.

Pls Mr. Wenger only Carlos Tevez can do it and a god midfieder.

Wenger should understand that Van is under pressure to meet or even surpass his last season’s achievement. He’s a season wonder. Cash in for him and bring in lewadosky or huntelar. The future looks bright. Then a strong defensive midfielder, a solid keeper, and we are ready for title challenge on all fronts.

  24. Sammy skales oras

    July 6, 2012 at 11:35 am

I think for the first time in seven years, wenger should spend real cash on hungry, aggressive and well recognized players… Its about time we beat the likes of man u, chelsea, man city with ease.up arsenal!

    July 6, 2012 at 11:52 am

No concrete talk, all i read is bla bla bla, end of next season we are going to come up with this kind of isue again maybe with song or varmalen, just tired with our type of managment, always make me really sick and tired.
