New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the club is set to announce the arrival of an ‘exciting’ new signing this week.
Rodgers says that despite whats printed in the newspapers, the club doesn’t have a ‘wheelbarrow load’ of money available to spend and will only be making minor changes to the playing staff this summer.
Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of names in recent weeks but the Reds boss confirmed he has made only three or four enquiries so far, but claims he is close to securing an ‘exciting’ signing that the Anfield faithful will love.
Quoted in the Guardian, Rodgers said:
“We don’t have a wheelbarrow load of money, there is not the money flying about people think there is,” said the Northern Irishman.
“There certainly won’t be as many [signings] as is being labelled out there.
“There have been a whole raft of players being linked and only a few are real targets for us.
“The reality is we have only made three or four enquiries about players and hopefully can close out one deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club, one the supporters will absolutely love.
“We want to work with the great players we have here and make three or four tweaks in relation to the squad that can help the group.
“We want to be competitive in every game and challenging at the top end.”
The identity of the mystery player is not yet known, but it doesn’t sound like it will be too much longer until Liverpool fans find out who this exciting star is.
Rodgers is believed to be looking to add more flair and creativity to his attacking options this summer, after Liverpool registered just 47 goals in the Premier League last term.
