Ibrahim Afellay

Arsenal and Tottenham have been alerted to the news that Barcelona have made playmaker Ibrahim Afellay available for transfer, according to the Express.

The report claims that Barca are ready to cash in on the Dutch international this summer and the north London duo have shown an interest in bringing him to England.

Until now the Spanish giants have insisted they wanted to keep hold of the 26-year-old but with a limited transfer budget available this summer, new manager Tito Vilanova has been forced to sell some of his existing squad in order to raise funds for the purchase of Jordi Alba and the prospective deal for Javier Martinez, and Afellay and Adriano are the ones for the chop.

The Catalans are willing to entertain bids of around £6m for the midfielder which will interest long-term admirers Arsenal, as well as Tottenham who the express claim have had two offers rejected for the player in recent years.

Football Talk Verdict

Afellay would be an excellent signing for either Arsenal or Tottenham this summer, and £6m could prove to be the bargain of the century.

However, only if the player can steer clear of injury. Afellay has a poor injury record and no doubt that’s the reason for his low price-tag. But i think he’s worth a punt, as his talent is beyond question.
