Chelsea will move for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani just hours after agreeing a £25m deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Oscar from Internacional, as Roman Abramovich prepares to splash £60m on the pair, according to the Sun.
The report claims the Blues are set to bid £35m for Cavani as boss Roberto Di Matteo looks to buy a replacement for Didier Drogba, who left the club earlier this summer.
The Uruguayan hitman impressed during Napoli’s two-legged champions league encounter with Chelsea last season, and has scored 66 goals in his two years with Napoli.
The Italians have previously insisted it would take £50m to land Cavani, but the Sun claim they are now ready to start negotiations with a more realistic price-tag in mind.
It remains to be seen whether the European champions £35m offer will be enough to persuade Napoli in to selling their prized asset, but it’s another sign that owner Roman Abramovich means business this summer.
Having already splashed out on Marko Marin, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden hazard this summer, the Russian also sanctioned a £25m deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Oscar from Internacional on Monday.
If they could land Cavani for £35m, that would represent a sensational £60m double swoop that would take Chelsea’s summer spending over £100m as Abramovich seeks to regain the Premier League title as well as defend their European cup.
