Fergie Lining Up Bid For Reported Liverpool Target
Written by Football Talk.
Manchester United are preparing a £13m bid for Belgian midfielder Steven Defour, according to a report in the Sun. However any move has been put on hold until the player has fully recovered from a broken foot.
Ferguson has been keeping an eye on the Standard Liege star for over a year now and even wrote him a letter of support after Defour suffered his foot injury. It is believed Fergie will step up his interest after reports emerged that new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson was also lining up a bid for the 22-year-old.
Defour’s contract with Liege expires in 2013 and his agent confirmed United’s interest, but also revealed clubs all over Europe were keeping track of his client.
“Sir Alex has been interested in Steven since he sent him the letter last September when he was struggling with injury.”He is still interested but we have to wait for an offer to be accepted by Standard Liege.
“There is also interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany, but everyone wants to play in the Premier League.”
