Wenger: Trio Will Definitely Leave But Arshavin Could Stay

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted Andrey Arshavin could yet stay at the club but confirmed at least three more players will leave this summer.

After a bright start to life in north London, Arshavin’s form has dipped drastically in recent seasons and has failed to live up to expectations following his move in 2009.

The 31-year-old was sent out on loan to former side Zenit St Petersburg in February last season and was able to recapture some of his old form, scoring three goals and grabbing four assists in 10 appearances.

Despite all parties keen to secure a permanent transfer, Zenit have so far been unable to agree a deal with Arsenal and Wenger has now left the door open to a possible stay at the club for the Russian attacker.

The Gunners boss is planning to hold talks with Arshavin and hinted he could yet have a future at the Emirates. Quoted by ESPN, Wenger said:

“With Arshavin, it depends,” Wenger said. “We have to sit together and talk. He could still have a future at the club.”

The Frenchman also confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner, Sebastien Squillaci and Park Chu-Young will all be leaving the club this summer after failing to hold down first team spots. Wenger continued:

“Bendtner, Squillaci and Park will be on their way to go somewhere.”

Seeing Arshavin perform well at the Euro’s, as well as with Zenit in the second half of last season, shows us he still has it in him to make a difference at the top level. But it’s doing the business in the Premier League where the Russian has struggled in recent years.

If he comes back with a renewed confidence i’d be happy for him to be given another chance at Arsenal, but if he still has that ‘couldn’t give a sh*t’ look on his face that he had last season while at the Emirates, i’d prefer to see him gone.
