Cazorla Pushing For £18m Arsenal Move

Santi Cazorla will try to push through an £18m move to Arsenal with his agent due to hold talks with Malaga on Monday to confirm they want to move to London

Santi Cazorla will try to push through an £18m move to Arsenal despite Qatari owners trying to sell troubled club Malaga, according to Sky Sports News.

Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani bought Malaga in June 2010 and initially poured money into the club, with the likes of Santi Cazorla, Martin Demichelis and Ruud van Nistelrooy all brought in to try and push the club into the champions league.

The plan worked and the club finished fourth in La Liga last season to qualify for Europe’s top competition for the first time in their history.

The money from the owners has since dried up and the club have amassed £40m debts in unpaid wages, transfer fees and taxes and they have until 1st August to resolve their outstanding debts or they face relegation to Serie B and kicked out the Champions League.

It’s become apparent that the owners are in advanced talks to sell the club with Albanian oil magnate Rezart Taci.

However, Malaga need funds now and Sky Sports claim that Arsenal have offered £18m for Cazorla and the Spanish international in intent on sealing a move to north London, even if Malaga are sold to new owners.

The report suggests that Cazorla’s agent, Amadeo Rengel, was due to hold talks with Malaga officials on Monday to confirm their intention to sign for the Gunners and persuade the club a sale would be best for all parties.

So if Sky Sports are accurate, Cazorla could potentially complete a move to Arsenal as early as Tuesday. If Malaga agree to sell during the meeting with his agent today, it would be in their best interest to do so quickly and try and pay off their debts before August 1st deadline.

Of course the £18m sale of Cazorla wouldn’t cover the full £40m debts, but it would go a long way and may be able to buy them more time.
