Juventus Favourites To Land Van Persie With £70m Offer
Juventus are ready to offer a huge £70m package to land Arsenal’s want-away striker Robin van Persie but Man Utd & Man City remain in the hunt for the Dutchman
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Juventus are ready to make a £70m move for RVP.
Juventus are ready to offer a huge £70m package to land Arsenal’s want-away striker Robin van Persie, according to the Mirror.
The Italian champions will meet the Gunners £20m fee they are demanding for their captain, as well as offer the Dutchman a mammoth £190,ooo-a-week after tax five-year contract.
The Mirror claim the Italian champions general manager, Giuseppe Marotta, held further talks with Van Persie’s agent and informed them they are prepared to beat any offer made by Man Utd or Man City.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson remains confident he can persuade RVP to join him at Old Trafford but the sticking point remains money. Fergie is unwilling to pay in excess of £15m for a soon-to-be 29-year-old with little sell-on value, who has a poor injury record and is in the final year of his current contract.
United are also reluctant to pay the Holland striker more than £200,000-a-week, but van Persie is understood to want equal pay with United’s top earner, Wayne Rooney, at £220,000-a-week if he was to move to Old Trafford.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is desperate to land van Persie, but City officials have made it clear they will have to sell before they can buy and have so far been unable to offload high earners Emmanuel Adebayor or Eden Dzeko.
The Mirror also suggest that despite their big spending in recent seasons, City are not prepared to offer the player more than £150,000-a-week.
This leaves Juve as favourites to land the 30-goal striker, with Arsenal said to favour selling abroad rather than to a Premier League rival. However, the most important thing to the Londoners is someone meets their £20m+ valuation, and the Italians are so far the only club prepared to do so.
If the Mirror’s report is accurate and Juve are prepared to pay £20m for van Persie as well as offer him the wages he wants, there is every chance this could happen. It would all come down to the player and whether he’s willing to uproot his family and move to Italy, which only RVP can answer.
