Arsenal Told To Pay £40m For Ganso

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has insisted they wont sell midfielder Ganso unless his £40m buy-out clause is met, amid interest from Arsenal

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Santos have named their price for Ganso.

Ganso

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has insisted the club wont sell midfielder Ganso unless his £40m buy-out clause is met, according to Sky Sports News.

Ganso has been touted for a move this summer after falling out with Santos, and the players agent has previously declared his client would never play for the club again.

Premier League side Arsenal and Brazilian outfit Internacional have been strongly linked with a move for the 22-year-old this summer, and while Ribeiro has confirmed the player can leave, he will only do so if his buy-out clause is met.

“Bring the offers, but we won’t accept anything less than his buy-out fee,”

“The player’s will always has to come first. It’s pointless to keep an unhappy player. I always respect the player’s will. I did that regarding Wesley, Andre, Jonathan, but Santos’ rights have to be respected, as per the contracts that were signed.”

“The concrete fact is that he has a contract and a buy-out fee,” he continued.

“If he doesn’t cancel his contract, he has to play. And if he doesn’t play well, he’ll be benched.

“And if he’s benched, he’ll never leave, he’ll have to stay until 2015 [when his contract expires].”

The midfielder has been criticised by some sections of the Santos support for his performances last season, but Ribeiro believes its simply a case of the player gaining match fitness.

“A large part of the fanbase isn’t happy with his performances. I’ve talked with Muricy Ramalho [team’s manager] about this,” he said.

“He believes there is a physical problem. Ganso had a surgery and isn’t playing on a regular basis, so has to do muscle strengthening. Sooner or later he’ll be playing football again. I don’t know if it will be in a month or two.”

Ganso is currently in the UK with the Brazilian squad competing in this summers Olympic Games and is expected to sort out his future once the tournament finishes.

While Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ganso in the media, Arsene Wenger is highly unlikely to splash the £40m Sky Sports claim it will take to trigger the player release-clause. Especially given the fact the club is thought to be on the verge of signing Santi Cazorla.

Should the Spaniard complete his move to the Emirates, i would suggest that would all but end Arsenal’s interest in Ganso.
