Liverpool look set to sign Real Madrid’s £9m rated left back Royston Drenthe after the player claimed he will be playing for the Reds next season.

Roy Hodgson has made the left back position his priority after the £4.5m sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina, along with the departures of Andrea Dossena and Fabio Aurelio, left him with no recognised left-back to choose from.

Now it seems Drenthe, who can also play as a left sided midfielder, will be the man to fill the void after claiming on his Facebook page that he will soon be joining Liverpool.

“I will soon be joining Liverpool FC. I hope I will have a good season, he said.

The 23-year-old former Dutch international has seen his playing time limited at Real Madrid following his move from Feyenoord three years ago, appearing in just 46 games and has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeau for some time.

***Since this article was published it became apparent that the Facebook was page in-fact NOT Drenthe’s personal page but a fansite page***
