Liverpool Transfer News: Rodgers Lines-Up Agger Replacement

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will move for Swansea defender Ashley Williams if Daniel Agger makes a £20m move to Premier League champions Man City this summer

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with Ashley Williams.

Ashley Williams

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will move for Swansea defender Ashley Williams if Daniel Agger leaves the club this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Rodgers is fearing that Danish defender Agger could leave Anfield in the coming weeks and is drawing up a list of potential replacements, with Williams believed to be under serious consideration.

Agger has two years to run on his current contract but is showing no signs of extending that deal. He didn’t take part in Liverpool’s Europa League tie against Gomel in Belarus on Thursday night and the Mail claim Manchester City have had two bids for the player rejected already this summer, while Spanish giants Barcelona also monitoring his situation.

Although Rodgers is under no pressure to sell, it’s believed that the Reds would accept a third bid from City of £20m for Agger and would then turn their attention to Williams.

Rodgers is a huge fan of the 28-year-old’s, who was a stand-out performer for the Northern Irishman while he was in the Swansea hot-seat last season, and if the Mail are to be believed the new Liverpool boss is keen to link up with him again should Agger move to City.

WHAT? Agger’s one of the only truly stand out players in our squad. Why sell him, for Williams? I have bad vibes about Rodgers

I was starting to worry until you said the source was the daily mail. If you bekieve them not only would Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy and Sterling go but British governmental policy would be somewhere near to the policies of the BNP

You must be very a special scribe in having RB discussing his plans with you. I say this based on the stance that LFC have no discussions nor any negotiations in the open. But you are privy to such info.

It can never be good news if Agger leaves Liverpool, because players of his calibre are not easy to find.

I sincerely hope and suspect that this is utter BS, particularly as it’s from The Daily Mail.

This is going to be the greatest mistake that will happen to LFC this season. since Alonso moved to Real we have not gotten our self, now you want to allowed Agger to go without having a replacement that has been with the club.Lets see the magic.

I think, it’s not a bad business if we can get 20mn for injury prone DAgger; also we can free a significant amount of salary. Williams is a Wales international & though class apart from DAgger, at 1/2mn & at best 35k-40k/week is not a bad replacement, considering Coates improving & as long as Skartel is there.

My only worry is that, these yanks have started to show their colors; under the circumstances, they got LFC at half price, but now finding the difficult side of club football. Those cowboys have dished out only about 60mn so far & I am afraid, the proceeds of DAgger’s sale might not reinvested.

I don’t think, there had been much improvement in terms of ownership, but these cowboys are much cunning, they have appointed a cheap Manager who is ready to give a fight for top 4 with Swansea players, which the likes of AVB, Klopp, Cappello or Van Gull. We deserved a better owner, but stuck with cowboys (Thanks to Chelsea fan Broughton, the Thanis & the Makhtums were interested)

Looks like BR gonna invade Swansea for all the replacements. They maybe good presenting them but once they step into LFC it’s a different ball game my fren. The pressure is surely gonna be tough battle
