Liverpool look set to finally land Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen after triggering his contract clause with a £15m bid, according to Sky Sports News.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for the Welsh ace ever since former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers took over the hot-seat at Anfield.

Sky Sports claim Liverpool have been locked in negotiations with the Swans for weeks trying to secure a deal, but have so far been unable to agree terms over the 22-year-old.

But Rodgers is determined to get his man and has reportedly triggered the players release clause after tabling the required £15m, and the Reds will now look to tie up the deal quickly with the start of the Premier League just over a week away.

Allen returned to training with Swansea on Wednesday following his participation in the London 2012 Olympics with Team GB and held talks with chairman Huw Jenkins.

The midfielder is now due to meet with manager Michael Laudrup on Thursday and if Sky Sports are accurate and Liverpool have now triggered his release clause, it’s likely to be a farewell meeting between the two men as Allen looks set to move to Anfield in the coming days.
