Manchester United are lining up a £10m move for Liverpool target Hector Herrera, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old was one of Mexico’s key players en route to winning the gold medal at this summers London 2012 Olympic Games, where they beat favourites Brazil 2-1 in the final.

The Mail claim United have been tracking the midfielder for over 12 months, while Liverpool are also believed to be interested in the player but are yet to make an official move.

Herrera plays for Mexcian side Pachuca and the sides sporting director Andres Fassi has confirmed they have received an approach from United requesting to speak with the player, who’s nicknamed ‘Zorro’ in his homeland.

When asked about reported interest from United, Fassi is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying:

‘There is an official interest. We have the document, but there’s nothing else to add at this time.’

Herrera is currently on the sidelines nursing a minor ankle injury but Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to land the highly-rated youngster after missing out on Brazilian ace Lucas Moura earlier in the summer.
