Manchester United are lining up a £10m move for Liverpool target Hector Herrera, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old was one of Mexico’s key players en route to winning the gold medal at this summers London 2012 Olympic Games, where they beat favourites Brazil 2-1 in the final.

The Mail claim United have been tracking the midfielder for over 12 months, while Liverpool are also believed to be interested in the player but are yet to make an official move.

Herrera plays for Mexcian side Pachuca and the sides sporting director Andres Fassi has confirmed they have received an approach from United requesting to speak with the player, who’s nicknamed ‘Zorro’ in his homeland.

When asked about reported interest from United, Fassi is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying:

‘There is an official interest. We have the document, but there’s nothing else to add at this time.’

Herrera is currently on the sidelines nursing a minor ankle injury but Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to land the highly-rated youngster after missing out on Brazilian ace Lucas Moura earlier in the summer.

Liverpool don’t need anymore midfielders – they aren’t Spain. We need somebody to put the ball in the back of the net. Profligacy cost them dearly last season and judging by last Saturday, there are warning signs!

I tink man united still need a midfielder, be it herrera or whosoever dat is capable cos i don’t want wat happened last season 2 repeat itself. Arrh, it pained me 2 c our noisy neighbours lift dat trophy cos of goal difference.

Agree fully with Stuart. Liverpool needs a deadly goalscorer. Still can’t understand how 35 million pounds can be spent on Andy Carroll. That sum should be spent on a prolific goalcorer of world class level. Not on a young, untested and unproven player like Carroll. Dalglish is the wally of the century.

We need a creative midfielder because we’re lacking at the center if that one is capable of handling manchester united midfield then we should go for him
