Chelsea play their first home game of the season as newly promoted Reading come to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues made a winning start on Sunday with an impressive 2-0 win away at Wigan, summer signing Eden Hazard made a superb competitive debut for the club bagging two assists.

Last seasons Championship title winners arrive at the Bridge following a 1-1 draw with Stoke on the opening day and Brian Mcdermott must ensure his players are not star struck when they take on the European champions tonight.

Team News

Roberto di Matteo will be without David Luiz who misses out with a knee injury, Gary Cahill will come in to replace the Brazilian alongside John Terry at the back.

Marko Marin is also out with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him on the sidelines until after the international break.

However, Ramires returns after missing the Wigan game through illness, with Ryan Bertrand likely to make way if Di Matteo brings the Brazilian midfielder straight back in. Oscar made an impressive cameo on Sunday but is expected to remain on the bench.

Jem Karacan misses out for Reading with a dead leg while striker Jason Roberts completes the final game of his three match ban.

Jimmy Kebe remains on the sidelines with a hamstring problem and Pavel Pogrebnyak is likely to make way for midfielder Gareth McCleary as Mcdermott opts to play just one up top.

Predicted Score

Despite Reading’s spirited display against Stoke at the weekend, playing away to the European champions is a whole new ball game. We can’t see anything other than a comfortable Chelsea win here. Chelsea 3-0 Reading
