Tiote to the Emirates?

The Metro claim Arsenal will use the £15m they received from sale of Alex Song to Barcelona to launch a bid for Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote.

Arsene Wenger is expected to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, and the Frenchman is believed to have turned his attention to Tiote after a move for long-term target Yann M’Vila stalled.

Tiote has enjoyed two hugely successful seasons at St James Park following his £3.5m move from FC Twente in 2010. His energetic and dogged style has attracted interest from several top European clubs and it seems Arsenal have joined the list of suitors.

I would love to see Tiote at the Emirates but i really can’t see Wenger paying what it would take to persuade Newcastle into selling. In all likelyhood, it would take in excess of the £15m we received for Song, so i think Arsene will go for a cheaper alternative in the end.

Theo out, Navas In?

Reports from Spanish newspaper AS claim that Arsenal are lining up a €15million bid for Sevilla winger Jesus Navas.

The 26-year-old has been in superb form in recent seasons and was part of the Spain squad that retained the European championship title this summer.

New Gunners signing Santi Cazorla is understood to have recommended his Spanish team mate to boss Arsene Wenger, and the Frenchman is mulling over a move.

Having spent his entire career with Sevilla, making over 350 appearances since breaking into the first team in 2003, Navas could be ready for a fresh challenge this summer.

However, I really can’t see the thinking behind moving for Navas unless he’s a potential replacement for Theo Walcott, who is yet to sign a new contract. A defensive midfielder and a utility defender are the priorities before the window shuts, not another tricky winger.
