Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given an update on the transfer activity going on at the Emirates as we enter the final hours of the transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks with a defensive midfielder thought to be the Frenchman’s priority following the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona.

Speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Anfield, Wenger confirmed the club are in the market and he is working hard to bring in fresh faces, but insists he will only sign ‘top, top, top, players’. Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“We have enough [players], that is for sure, but you always want to improve your squad and if we find a top, top, top player we will do it,” he said.

“We are working very, very hard. We have resources available so if it is not happening now it will happen in December.

“We are active but we do not just want to bring average players in. If we find a special player who can find us a plus we will do it, if not we will not do it.

“But we believe strongly that we have the quality in our squad to do very well. We have already bought Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud of course. So you cannot say we have not bought, but when you listen to people you always have to buy more.

“What is important as well is to believe in the players you have and we will get our long-term injuries back.”

Two players that are widely tipped to leave north London this summer are strikers Nicklas Bendtner and Marouance Chamakh.

Danish forward Bendtner is expected to make a move to Italy with a move to Juventus said to be close, while Chamakh is being linked with the likes of Fiorentina and Besiktas.

However, while the Gunners boss confirmed they could leave before the window closes, he insists no agreement has been reached as yet. On Bendtner, Wenger said:

“There is a chance he is leaving. Where is not decided at the moment.”

Wenger added when asked about Chamakh:

“Again, we have not made an agreement with any club.”

We need a defensive minded midfielder to cover in front of the back four. Atm Arteta is doing an outstanding job at CDM but aside from him there is nobody else, Diaby is just coming back, the ox is to young and to attacking minded. Sign m’villa and we will be solid not to mention a future trio of OX, Wilshire and M’villa once the likes of Santi, Arteta and Rosicky reach there golden years.

Cabaye. If not, bring back Fabregas on loan and play Arteta in a defensive position as Vilanova has told Cesc he isn’t a part of his plans. COYG!

Wenger should bring in top class word player like F Llorente, M’villa, J Navas, Van Der Wiel etc before the transfer deadline close tomorow. If Arsenal want to remain in the top 4 and excel this season

I b happy if he jus bought another striker. right now i wouldnt let Bendtner go, as much as i want him to leave, his our best cover. Polodski is a winger not a striker. we hav plenty in midfield, and steve bould seems to hav done wonders at d back so far.

Well wenger nids a solid defensive midfielder not a conversion more over ox is still young if a solid dmf can be brought in that means arteta wil have enough rest of mind so as to be focused on one thing distribution of pass to the wingers and strikers as 4 d striker we dnt need ani striker what we need is a defender and a solid dmf so as to stay top cuz when U ar droped is not that easy to climb up.

What is it with buying for you people? When the signings become flops then you guys will ask another players to be bought. Arsenal already have frimpong and coquelin to fill in song’s place, they’re great players.

i agree with olagoke, we neet more players who are tactical ,quick in reading the game, creatives and quick in handling prussure on the pitch and of course more defence is needed right away from the back to the center back

Funny that! Wenger wants a “top, top, top’ player but is only willing to pay ” low, low, low” price for it!
    What a joke!

This is an effort in futility; we are very much aware of the antics of Wenga and he has almost very clearly stated the transfer is over till maybe December or even next year!I don’t think there is any need thinking of who and who wenga should buy with less than 20hrs left to dead line. But I think he has done very well this time with transfers and I also do agree we have enough dept to do well this season.

Wenger is always buying eggs instead of bulls. I blv its high time he deliver’s or face sucking for nt sustaining. He kips admiring player’s in the mkt bt ends up doing nothng constructive. Nw he feels seeking high top clas bt is jst aftr low n dispntng squad. Shame wengr

no sign. when wanger talk about special players mean one who can reach by our budget.manager confess himself to fail to sign hazard due to high price asked.how can we expect to buy top player without break a bank.if he say we will buy without restriction that can happen, but for emphasis on top player according to arsenal philosophy mean something unaffordable.wanger act as tanzanian politician

i think wenger is fastrating ur fans from the sale of Fabrigas, Nassir, Clich, RVP, Song we have not seen him spending the money the club got look Fabri went with more than 20 plus replasment Ateta came with 10, Nassir went with 20 plus we brought in Yosse on loan so you can c we have money waiting to deadline n bring in deadwood from other team n loan is not fair why not sign early n 4get all this last minutes things

Sense at last (Ekene), the first sensible comment on here…As for the rest I’ve never heard so much absolute rubbish in my life, If all you think it takes to be a big club or a good manager is to throw money around, why don’t you all get off and support city!!
