Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini looks set for a big-money move after admitting this will be his last season at Goodison Park, but who is likely to make a move for the giant Belgian?

The versatile midfielder moved to Merseyside from Standard Liege for £15m in 2008 and has been a revelation under David Moyes, clocking up 130 appearances and scoring 22 goals for the club.

His all-action style has earned him cult status at Goodison Park and the 6 foot 4 inch Belgian international has made an excellent start to the new season, scoring 2 goals in 3 games including a man-of-the-match display against Manchester United on the opening weekend.

Fellaini dropped a bombshell by claiming on Sunday that this would be his last season with Everton and hinted at a move as early as this January.

Quoted in the Telegraph, he said:

“I am just starting my fifth season at Everton, this will be one of my last,”

“I have seen everything. In January or at the end of the season I will turn to another club or championship.”

Fellaini quickly moved to try and backtrack on his comments, insisting he’s happy at Everton and is concentrating on the season ahead.

“Let me remind you that I am very happy in Liverpool and our start of the championship was good.

“Kevin Mirallas and some other good players joined us to make a better squad in order to realize a good championship in the line of the end of the last one.

“So with Everton, I am ready to play all the season and to reach our goals of this season.”

This is hardly a statement reaffirming his long-term commitment to the club, is it? He fails to deny he said his previous quotes and only commits to this season, not anything beyond that. So only the most foolhardy Evertonian would think the player isn’t keeping his options open.

So if Fellaini is vying for a move either in January or next summer, which Premier League clubs are likely to be interested?

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger would no doubt love to have the powerhouse in his side. He has sorely missed a physical presence in midfield since a certain Patrick Vieira left and Fellaini not only has the physique, but also the technical ability to fit in perfectly at the Emirates.

The main problem would be finances. Arsenal are known for their prudent approach to transfer fees and wages and may struggle to match some of the offers put forward by their rivals.

Chelsea

The European champions have been previously linked with Fellaini and he would fit perfectly into their new-look side to compliment the attacking flair of Hazard, Mata, Oscar, etc.

Money wouldn’t be a problem either with Roman Abramovich clearly in the spending mood after splashing the cash this summer. The Blues would certainly be one of the favourites for the Belgians signature.

Man Utd

Fergie has a habit of signing players who cause his sides problems and the Scot would no doubt be interested if Fellaini was pushing for a move. Central midfield has been a problem area for United in recent seasons, so much so that the former champions were forced to persuade Paul Scholes out of retirement midway through last season. Could Fellaini be the answer? Quite possibly.

Man City

Let’s be honest, if Fellaini is on the market, money-bags City will be linked with him. Do they need him though? Doubtful. With the array of talent on offer to Roberto Mancini it’s hard to see why they would need the Belgian.

His style has been compared to Yaya Toure in recent seasons and City have just paid a fortune for Jack Rodwell, so a move for Fellaini would make little sense. But would that be enough to stop them?
