Wenger Gives Update On Diaby Injury

Abou Diaby

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on Abou Diaby’s latest injury and claims the midfielder has a small chance of facing Southampton on Saturday.

The 26-year-old continued his excellent early-season form with a goal-scoring display in France’s World Cup 2014 qualifying win over Finland last Friday night.

However, the victory came at a cost with Diaby suffering from a late muscular problem that ruled him out of Tuesday nights 3-1 win over Belarus, and fears were mounting that he could be set for another spell on the sidelines.

But Wenger has moved to play down those suggestions claiming Diaby’s injury is only a minor one and he has a ‘small chance’ of playing in Saturday’s encounter with Southampton at the Emirates. The Frenchman is quoted by Goal.com as saying:

“The injury doesn’t seem serious to me at all. He has a small chance of playing on Saturday.”

Diaby has only just returned to action after missing the majority of last season through injury. After regaining full fitness in pre-season, the former Auxerre man has made a superb start to the new campaign and put in a man-of-the-match display during the Gunners 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
