Liverpool have ordered striker Luis Suarez to shake hands with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra when the two clubs meet next Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.

The rivals meet at Anfield with tensions sure to be running high in the wake of United fans aiming sick chants at Liverpool during Saturday’s win over Wigan at Old Trafford.

Last seasons racism controversy surrounding Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra is also still at the forefront of many fans minds and it will only add to what is expected to be a high-charged atmosphere at Anfield on Sunday.

The Daily Mail report that United chief executive David Gill is due to hold ‘peace talks’ with Liverpool’s Ian Ayre this week to try and ensure the game goes as smoothly as possible.

It’s understood Liverpool have ordered Uruguayan striker Suarez to shake hands with United defender Evra and are confident he will do so after snubbing the Frenchman last season.

United have also been forced into condemning a small section of their fans for singing anti-Liverpool chants during Saturday’s 4-0 win over Wigan.

During the first half, chants of ‘Stand up if you hate the Scouse’ could be heard but it was a small section of fans in the Stretford End who crossed the line when they later sang ‘Always the victim, it’s never your fault’.

United issued a statement shortly after the game which said:

‘The manager has made the club’s position on this very clear, and it is now up to the fans to respect that. The club deplore it.’

Gill is due to meet with Ayre this week to discuss how to minimise the risk of trouble at the game and also to see how United can show respect to the 96 Hillsborough victims.

A minutes silence is an option but it may be decided that a minutes applause may be more suitable to help eliminate the chances of disruption. United may also lay a wreath in memory of the victims before kick-off.
