New Tottenham signing Hugo Lloris says he’s ‘expects’ to play for the club but understands he needs some time before he can displace Brad Friedel as No.1.

The France captain made his move to White Hart Lane on transfer deadline day from Lyon and was expecting to be brought straight in as the clubs new number one.

However, he has been left on the bench as 41-year-old Brad Freidel continues between the sticks and made his 307th consecutive Premier League appearance during Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Reading on Sunday.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has already told the Lloris that he has a fight on his hands to replace the aging American, who has been in impressive early season form for Spurs, and the Frenchman has voiced his frustration at being considered as No.2 just days after joining the club.

The 25-year-old has once again been talking to the media and while he acknowledged that he needs some time to adapt to his new surroundings, he made it clear he expects to be given playing time eventually.

Lloris is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying:

“Things were very clear from the start on Sunday,”

“I was at Tony Parks (Tottenham’s goalkeeping coach) and Brad Friedel’s disposal.

“That pitch, that atmosphere, that gives you desire to play. Moreover we got three points that made us start our season.

“For me, it is a period to manage. Obviously I have desire. I came here to play.

“I am at the club, I know where I have to go to. I had a talk with the coach, as he said, and I know everyone at Tottenham wanted me to come.

“So indeed, I am in an adaptation period, I’ve had very few training sessions, and there are players that I didn’t know. But I am expecting time on the pitch.”

AVB is expected to stick with Friedel as his Premier League No.1 for the foreseeable future but Lloris may be given his chance to impress in the Europa League, starting with this Thursday night’s tie with Lazio.

After he will have adapted himself to his new surroundings and trained sufficiently with his team, Hugo Lloris is my obvious choice for the no. 1 goalkeeper. Without belittling Friedel’s ability,I would like to see Hugo getting the chance to be in action in a couple of EPL matches quite soon.
