Juventus are ready to make Fernando Llorente their highest paid player in order to fend off competition from Arsenal for the Athletic Bilbao striker, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims the Italian giants have put together a £145,000-a-week deal to try and tempt the Spaniard to Turin.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to sign another striker in January and Llorente is high on his wish-list.

However, Juve believe they are now in pole position to beat the Gunners to his signature after stepping up their interest in recent weeks, including putting together a £7.5m-a-year package.

The Italians would prefer to sign the 27-year-old in January and are willing to offer Bilbao £5m, but are prepared to wait until the summer when he’ll be available on a free transfer.

Both Arsenal and Juventus have been boosted in their pursuit after Llorente was involved in another training ground bust-up with manager Marcelo Bielsa this month, so a January move could be on the cards.

Should Bilbao refuse to do business this winter it would give the Gunners more time to try and persuade Llorente his future is in London, although there are doubts over whether they would be willing to match Juve’s personal terms.
