HJC Helsinki striker Joel Pohjanpalo has revealed his desire to join Liverpool just months after rejecting a three-year contract to join the Anfield club, according to the Mirror.

The 18-year-old spent a week on trial at Liverpool back in March and the Reds staff were impressed enough to offer him a three-year deal in the summer.

However, Pohjanpalo decided to reject the move due to the fact he wouldn’t even be guaranteed reserve team football at Anfield, and decided to continue his development at Helsinki.

The Finnish striker has now claimed his dream is to represent the Reds one day and admitted it was tough for him to reject the advances of the Premier League giants. He is quoted as saying in the Mirror:

“I don’t know where I’ll be playing next season, but it’s my dream to play for Liverpool FC one day.”

“It was a hard decision to reject Liverpool’s contract offer. HJK is a good club and there’s a great feeling in this group; I can for example call to our assistant manager in my free time to come and play the ball. I’m sure it would not been possible in Liverpool.

“I know I might get an injury or something else and the possibility [of a move to Liverpool] may not necessarily happen again, but I have to move forward and overcome all obstacles when they arise.”

Brendan Rodgers may decide to reignite his interest in the young hitman – who’s scored 19 goals in 34 games for Helsinki – in January off the back of Pohjanpalo’s comments. Here’s a video of his goals and assists in 2012 to give Liverpool fans a taster of the boys talent.
