Chelsea and Manchester United served a Halloween treat after sharing a nine-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.

The Blues came out on top after 120 minutes of enthralling cup action, here are player ratings for the Premier League title-chasing duo:

Chelsea Ratings

Cech – 6 – Poor decision to pass out to Romeu for the opening goal but otherwise solid enough, even if he did concede four. Made a few decent saves.

Azilicueta – 5 – Didn’t take the opportunity to stake his claim for the right back birth. Gave away a penalty and also missed a decent chance to get on the score-sheet. Ivanovic’s position in the team is safe for now.

Cahill – 6 – Not his best game in a Blues shirt. Lost Hernandez on a couple of occasions but scored another lovely goal.

Luiz – 5 – Lost the ball in the build-up to United’s second and was out of sorts all evening. Tucked his penalty away well though and also hit the bar with a belting free-kick.

Bertrand – 6 – Decent shift from the left back. Put in an energetic performance and got forward to support attacks.

Mikel – 5 – Very poor first half and was rightly subbed at half time. Head wasn’t in the game.

Romeu – 5 – Terrible error lead to the United opener and was sluggish all night.

Moses – 7 – Lively on the right. His trickery on the ball caused United problems and won him a penalty.

Mata – 7.5 – Another superb display from the Spaniard. Most of Chelsea’s positive play went through the little magician.

Piazon – 5 – The Brazilian struggled to get in the game and was subbed early in the second half.

Sturridge – 6.5 – Mixed game from the England youngster. Scored the vital fourth goal but was disappointing for large parts of the game. Needed to do more to persuade Di Matteo he deserves to start up front.

Subs:

Ramires – 7 – Important introduction. Won the injury-time penalty that took the game to extra-time and scored the fifth goal.

Oscar 6.5 – Showed ability on the ball and his guile helped Chelsea get back in the game.

Hazard – 7.5 – Came on and ran the game for large parts. Slotted home the injury-time penalty and his stunning reverse-pass set up Ramires for the late fifth.

Man Utd Ratings

Lindegaard – 6 – Wasn’t at fault for any of the five goals he conceded. Almost saved the opening penalty and made a couple of decent saves.

Rafael – 7 – Another assured display at right back from the Brazilian. Made a superb late tackle to deny Sturridge and almost managed to keep Cahill’s header out.

Wootton – 4.5 – The youngster struggled to deal with the more experienced Chelsea attack, especially when the likes of Hazard came on in the second half. Clumsy challenge gave away injury-time penalty and poor header lead to Chelsea’s fourth.

Keane – 5.5 – Like his partner, Keane struggled to contain the home side’s attack. The youngster did make several key interceptions though.

Buttner – 5 – Gave away penalty for Chelsea’s first and struggled throughout the first half. Subbed at half time.

Anderson – 8.5 – Superb. Worked his socks off all night and his passing was also excellent. Badly missed when he went off.

Giggs – 7 – Solid display. Tucked away the opener well and also calm from the penalty spot to grab last minute fourth.

Fletcher – 6.5 – Steady enough from the returning Scot although he struggled at times when moved to the unfamiliar right back role in the second half.

Nani – 7 – Hero to villain. Scored a lovely chipped effort to give United a 3-2 lead but he also gave away possession in the final minute of injury-time that lead to Chelsea winning a penalty and grabbing an equaliser. Fergie has criticised him for this and it’s hard to see the Portuguese winger being at United next season.

Welbeck – 5.5 – Worked hard but wasn’t really at the heart of United’s best attacking play.

Hernandez – 7 – Lively as ever. Finished his goal well and also won the extra-time penalty.

Subs:

Powell -5.5 – Wasn’t really in the game as much as he would have liked. Went close with a long-range effort.

Tunnicliffe – 5 – Put himself about but ended up giving away needless free-kicks.

Macheda: n/a – On to late.
