Liverpool To Launch £8m Move For Theo Walcott

Liverpool are ready to launch an £8m bid for Arsenal contract rebel Theo Walcott with Brendan Rodgers keen to add the Gunners forward to his squad this January

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, more on the future of Theo Walcott.

Liverpool are ready to launch an £8m bid for Arsenal contract rebel Theo Walcott this January, according to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old is out-of-contract next summer and has so far been unable to agree terms over an extension after rejecting Arsenal’s offer of a five-year deal worth £75,000-a-week.

Boss Arsene Wenger has recently claimed he wants the situation resolved either way before Christmas but the England attacker is also reluctant to commit his future to the Emirates without assurances that he will be given more playing time in his preferred striker role.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is prepared to offer Walcott this opportunity and has instructed the club to put together a financial package that exceeds the Gunners offer to try and tempt the pacey forward to Anfield, and hopes an £8m bid will be enough to persuade Arsenal into selling this January.

Rodgers is desperate to add to his strike-force when the transfer window re-opens after failing to bring in a replacement for Andy Carroll in the summer and he lost Fabio Borini for three months with a broken foot.

This has left the Merseysiders heavily reliant on Luis Saurez for goals and Rodgers wants Walcott to share the burden with the Uruguayan.

Walcott himself has previously stated he wants to remain at Arsenal but there is clearly a stand-off between himself and the club. Despite being the Gunners top scorer this season, Walcott has only been handed three starts this season by Arsene Wenger so the Frenchman is obviously sending a message to the youngster.

But will the Londoners sell to a Premier League rival for just £8m? Liverpool may see that offer as a fair one considering the player will be out-of-contract and available on a free next summer, but Arsenal will no doubt value him higher due to the amount of experience he has for one still only 23.

Would Arsenal fans pay Walcott what he wants and give him a go through the middle? Do Liverpool fans want him at Anfield? Get involved in the comments section.
