Guardiola Wants Chelsea Job Next Season

Foremer Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola wants to replace Roberto Di Matteo at Stamford Bridge and become the next Chelsea boss at the end of the current season

Pep Guardiola wants to replace Roberto Di Matteo at Stamford Bridge and become the next Chelsea boss at the end of the current season, according to the Daily Mail.

The former Barcelona boss wants to return to management next summer and the Mail claim he has made it clear to close friends that he wants his future to be at Stamford Bridge.

After a hugely successful playing career with Barcelona, Guardiola enhanced his legendary status at the Nou Camp after winning three La Liga titles and two European Cups in his four seasons as manager.

The 41-year-old decided to quit at the end of last season after announcing he was taking a year out the game, but it didn’t stop Chelsea making an approach for his services as they searched for a full-time manager in the summer.

Guardiola rejected the Blues advances, insisting he needed a year out to re-charge his battery’s, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich eventually handed Roberto Di Matteo the full-time managers position on a two-year deal.

However, the Mail report that Guardiola has been impressed by the European Champions change in playing philosophy and claim the Spaniard wants to take up the reigns at Stamford Bridge next summer.

It will be a huge test for Abramovich – who is notorious for being quick to fire his managers – and it remains to be seen what he will do with Di Matteo should Guardiola make it clear to the Russian he wants to be part of the clubs long-term plans.

However, cynics will say the fact Abramovich only gave Di Matteo a two-year deal signifies he may have seen this situation coming and he has the option to dismiss the Italian at the end of the season with minimal financial outlay to get the man he really wants – Pep Guardiola.

What do Chelsea fans think? Will Guardiola replace Di Matteo at the end of the season?
