Chamberlain Next To Show Unrest Over Contract Issues?

Arsenal have opened talks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over a new contract but risk another contract wrangle after offering him less than several ‘flops’ are on

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Arsenal have opened talks with youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over a new contract but risk another contract wrangle after offering him less than several ‘flops’ are on, according to the Mirror.

Manager Arsene Wenger is wanting to reward the 19-year-old with a new bumper contract for his meteoric rise to the first team over the past 15 months. Chamberlain is currently on £15,000-a-week and Arsenal have so far offered to treble his wages to £45,000-a-week.

This offer may sound fair for a 19-year-old, but when you consider the fact Chamberlain is now an important member of the first team squad and an England squad regular, together with the fact that fringe players such as Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh are all on £50-£60,000-a-week, it’s easy to see why the Oxe’s representatives are holding out for more.

The Mirror claim that his agents are looking for him to be moved to a deal that’s at least on par with the trio, but an offer of £60,ooo-a-week would see him commit his long-term future to the club.

Chamberlain is tied to the five-year contract he signed when he joined the club in 2011, so there is no immediate worry that he will leave any time soon, unless the contract talks completely break down and he becomes unsettled and asks for a move, but this is the latest example of Arsenal not paying their best players the going rate.

Don’t get me wrong, Chamberlain has a long way to go before he should be ‘demanding’ ridiculous wages, but for Bendtner, Squillaci and Chamakh to be on better deals, even though we can’t even give them away at the minute (ironically because of their high wages!), it’s a slap in the face for Chamberlain if you ask me.

Arsenal’s wage structure and policy needs to be addressed quickly. We pay mediocre players far too much then when it comes to renewals, such as in Chamberlains case, those players wages are then used as the benchmark.

If Chamakh was on say £30,000-a-week, and Chamberlain was offered £45,000-a-week, you could understand the logic and Chamberlain would no doubt sign. But Wenger’s insistence to pay over-the-top wages to average players is a major reason why we can’t ‘compete’ with the United’s of this world.

Theo Walcott is the latest first team player who’s on the verge of leaving the club over contract issues, and who’d bet again Chamberlain being in Theo’s position in 12 or 24 months time?

Do you think Chamberlain deserves to be paid more than Chamakh, Squillaci and Bendtner? Get involved in the comments section.

I Think He Should Earn More,Squillaci Hasn’t Contributed Anything To The Team,The Only Option For Him Is To Leave The Club So Walcott And Ox Should Get What They Want.

thats the problem is our club.
to lose about 20 million a year on paying playing who do nothing for the club…it is free money.

and thats why we cant pay the likes of the ox, tho what they should be getting.

who ever sorts the contract at our club needs to get sacked soon as.

the OX dont deserve anything like 60K.he hasnt proven anything.Let stop paying young player so much for start, and yes i agree the club has to work harder to sell reserve player who arent use and earn way too much the like of fabianski, squillaci, djourou, arshavin, bendtner, denilson, chamak this lot could save us around 400/500K a week in salary ,this money could go to theo and top signing easy

Yes arsenal should sort out the wage structure. And that should start now. We cannot complain about the wage structure and when they try to get it right, which will be a gradual process we declare they should continue paying the same ridiculous wages. Does he deserve an increase? – yes but at what long term cost. Get rid of the agent they are the ones pushing this so they can get a higher commission. The OX I am sure is more than willing to sign.

Having such names on big wages is a problem to Arsenal already, so should we continue pushing up or we should find a lasting solution of getting rid of the less performing highly paid and we maintain an organised wage structure?

Find market for squill, chama, Park, bendner, djouro,Rosicky, diaby, arsh or even ramsey then we organise the wages according to perfomance

Their output is not equavalent to their input on average.

No footballer is worth their obscene wages. Clubs have to pay from the millions they have to remain competitive in the business. The player has the whip hand especially in the penultimate year of a contract. Pay up or lose out. Reality

The players talked about here @ one time or the other proved their worth and to attract them to Afc,u needed to offer them what they earn now. Ox shd prove his consistency b/4 demanding for parity of wages.I know he’ll surely earn high wages one day,but he shd be patient n focused to get there.

This wage structure is the fundermental problem in ARSENAL.It is the reason Arsenal is trophyless for a long spell now.The stars who leave the club do so because of it,but blindfolds the rest of us with their flimpsy excuse of goig for trophy somewhere else.

Gosh! Dis Article is as StUPID as the clueless fans dancing to its music. So if Podolski flops 2mao n Miyaichi gets ahead of him he shd automatically start earning £100,000? Pathetic!

Is the writer of this article even an Arsenal supporter? It doesn’t sound like it. It sounds like you are trying to cause trouble. Why wouldn’t a 19 year old who has only been at the club for just over a year be happy with 45k a week? Look at Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool and see how much their young players earn. They would be happy with 45k a week. It sounds like you want the kid to be ungreatful instead of feeling privilaged that a top club bought him, played him regularly and improved his contract after only a year. Do you not know how ridiculous our wage bill is? Once we offload the flops we are in a much better position. You should appreciate the fact arsenal are being a bit more careful to who they throw big wages at. I think the days of flops getting 50k+ wages off of us are over and that will only help the club in the long run

no please stop offering young player so much money 35-40K is the right offer ,if in 2 year he show us great progress yes pay him more ,the salary structure at arsenal is absoluty stupid how theo who havent prove to be a consistent performer is already on 60K ,now he start to perform we need to pay him 100K,
too many reserve/young player are on 45-60k this has to stop if we want to pay our top player 100+ and compete to sign top player we have to lower the wage for young and reserve player

This is one lousy piece, Squillaci was worth his dime at the time of signing. Bendtner’s promise was just as much as the Ox’s. So he was paid for his promise, and u want Arsenal to pay for another promise yet u lambast the first one? Get a life. U say it’s a lot with the benefit of hindsight! What’s to stop people such as u from blasting the same wage structure if arsenal were to shell out say 60k to the ox and then- God forbid- dude turns out to be another flop?
His wages were trebled, how many players of his reputation earn that bucks?
Let’s get real, Ox is no big time player, he’s just a prospect, so to calm ur sorry nerves, i say the club start discussing his worth in two years time. Duh!!

Wht a piece of S**T journalism the OX has only just turned up and all you can do is look at our flops and come up with pitiful nonsense. Its obvious that anybody would agree about squillaci and chamack did you forget bentner. It really is easy to see why people hate journo’s so much
