Manchester United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford on Wednesday night looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.

The Red Devils head into the game off the back of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers, a win that sent them top of the table after Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Once again United had to come from behind to take all three points – the ninth time in all competitions this season that they have come from behind to win.

Coincidentally, the last time these two sides met, United had to come from 2-0 down to eventually win 4-2, but Sir Alex Ferguson will be keen for his side to stop falling behind and giving themselves an uphill task.

West Ham were beaten 3-1 at White Hart Lane by Tottenham last time out but have made a steady start to life in the Premier League and currently sit eight in the league standings.

Team News

Veteran midfielder Paul Scholes will miss the game through suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season against QPR. Brazilian Anderson will come in after impressing in recent games from the bench.

Antonia Valencia is likely to be fit despite picking up a minor hip injury at the weekend, while Nani remains on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

Jonny Evans is set to partner Rio Ferdinand at centre back with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones on the bench, Anders Linegaard is likely to continue in goal.

Sam Allerdyce is without midfielder Mark Noble who is suspended. George McCartney is expected to shake off an ankle knock but Yossi Benayoun is out with a thigh problem. Jack Collison and Ricardo Vaz Te both remain out.

Andy Carroll will continue to lead the line and will be looking to build upon his first Hammers goal after scoring against Spurs at the weekend.

Predicted Score

Ferguson’s side have won the last seven Premier League meetings with West Ham and we see no reason why United won’t make that eight in a row. Not only do we think the home side will take all three points but they’ll do it by picking up their first clean sheet in ten matches. Man Utd 2-0 West Ham.
