Vidic close to return but Nani ruled out

Manchester United face Reading on Saturday evening and manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given an injury update ahead of the game.

Speaking to Man Utd’s official website, Ferguson gave the latest team news including updates on Antonio Valencia, Nani, Nemanja Vidic, Nick Powell, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

Valencia has been ruled out of the game with a hip injury but is expected to be back for next weeks derby with Manchester City, but winger Nani is set to miss the next four to five weeks with a hamstring strain.

Nick Powell has been suffering from a virus but is expected to be fit as is Giggs whose likely to shake-off a slight hamstring problem while Paul Scholes returns after suspension.

There is also some positive news for United with Fergie confirming defender Vidic is back in full training.

“Nani and Valencia are still out,” confirmed Sir Alex. “Nani will be out for four or five weeks. It’s a hamstring injury and you have to take your time with it.

“Antonio should be fit for next week. He’s got a hip injury, which is painful, but getting better.

“Nick Powell has had a virus but should be okay for tomorrow and Giggs had a slight hamstring strain but should also be okay. Nemanja Vidic has started training, which is good news, and Paul Scholes is back from suspension.”

Sir Alex went on to confirm that after months on the sidelines, Vidic could be in contention to start against Cluj in the Champions League next week.

“Vidic has probably only played about 10/12 games in the last 18 months,” the boss stated. “He started training during the week and he’s done okay.

“He hasn’t been involved in the real competitive part but at least he’s back with the rest.

“It would be nice to play him on Wednesday in the Champions League game against Cluj. I wouldn’t be adverse to playing him.

“Good defenders win you the league. I gave Rio a rest on Wednesday with tomorrow’s game in mind. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones being back gives the right problem that I need.”

Would you like to see Vidic play against Cluj? Or should he be given more time before playing competitive games?
