Mikel Arteta Arsenal

The demonstration before the game was large and loud. The goings-on on the pitch simply added to their cause. Very few of the Arsenal players did themselves justice. In contrast Swansea were magnificent and those of us left in the stadium at the end stood and clapped them off the pitch. Well done Gooners for that. That is what supporters of a club with class do!

Szczesny 8. Kept us in the game for long periods until Swansea’s good play finally got its deserved reward. Really looked impenetrable at times and he is one of the men to build the next team on.

Jenkinson 4. Not stretched defensively until the end when he was completely undone. He was absolutely hopeless going forward and we needed that from him yesterday. Was he under orders not to go past Walcott? Joint first prize with Theo in the ‘how not to beat a full-back’ competion.

Gibbs 5. Couldn’t cross the ball at all. Hesitant defending throughout. Very difficult to judge a player who misses so many games through injury. On yesterday’s showing he has a lot to do. But we have seen real potential.

Mertesacker 5. Part of the defence utterly taken apart at the end. Not his or any of the defenders finest hour.

Vermaelen 6. Certainly the best defender and tried to get forward.

Arteta 7. Our best player. Not a natural in many ways as a defensive holding player. That said he did what he could given what was happening around him. Great pro.

Wilshere 5. Out passed by his opponents. Clearly physically well short still, therefore judgement has to be tempered with that fact.

Cazorla 5. Oh dear! The faltering little Spaniard tried but failed to make any sort of impression. The midfield as a whole is in need of an energy burst…January window?

Walcott 4. The mark is justified for the ludicrous attempts at crossing the ball particularly at corners. Didn’t go past his man on the outside at all. He and Jenkinson have no rapport at all. They barely look at each other on the pitch, drop each other in the brown stuff too often for it to be an accident…is a story brewing there? Does anybody know?

Gervinho 5. A portion of the crowd seem to like getting on his back and that doesn’t help anyone least of all the player himself. Interchanged with Podolski as point man but neither came close to Michu. Where were Arsenal when he came on the market? Or Berbatov or…etc, etc

Podolski 2. Did NOTHING useful but wore the right colour shirt I suppose. Did he win his Germany caps in a raffle?

Subs: Good to see Tomas back but neither he nor the Ox or Giroud did anything to mention.
