Transfer News: Arsenal Linked With Chelsea Legend

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is lining-up a sensational move for Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who’s set to end an 11 year stay at Stamford Bridge this summer

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Arsenal are linked with a shock move for Frank Lampard.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is lining-up a sensational move for Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, according to the Mirror.

The Frenchman is better-known for buying youngsters and nurturing them rather than buying players coming to an end of their careers, but the Mirror claim the Gunners supremo is ready to ditch that philosophy and move for veteran Lampard.

The 34-year-old is in the final year of his Blues contract and interim boss Rafa Benitez has already confirmed the midfielder will be free to leave the club at the end of the season.

Wenger, who’s under increasing pressure following a 2-0 home defeat Swansea on Saturday, has told scouts to find ready-made stars who can come in and help out his young squad after making the club’s worst start in over 30 years.

Benitez is happy for Lampard to remain at the club until the summer but Wenger may decide to try and persuade the European champions to cash in this January.

Lampard has missed large parts of the season with a calf strain but may be back to face Nordsjaeland on Wednesday. The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to LA Galaxy but it’s believed he would prefer to remain in Europe.

Wenger showed interest when Lampard left West Ham 11 years ago but he ended up at Chelsea and has gone on to make 572 appearances, scoring an amazing 189 goals, during an illustrious career at Stamford Bridge.

But he’s set to bring an end to his time in West London and despite his age, the Wenger is confident he can prolong Lampard’s Premier League career further and offer him the chance to remain in the capital.
