Chelsea face their date with destiny as they welcome FC Nordsjaelland to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night and Rafa Benitez has given an injury and team news update ahead of the game.

The Blues are bidding to prevent becoming the first defending champions to be knocked out at the group stages of the Champions League, and only victory over Nordsjaelland combined with a Shakhtar win over Juventus would see Chelsea qualify for the last 16.

Ahead of the game interim boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed he’ll continue to be without the services of trio Frank Lampard, John Terry and Daniel Sturridge who all remain sidelined through injury.

Midfielder Lampard has been out since early October when he limped out of their tie against Shakhtar with a calf injury, and while he’s back in training the game on Wednesday will come too soon.

Captain Terry has been out for over four weeks with a knee injury sustained against Liverpool while Sturridge has been out for two weeks with a hamstring strain and the pair will also miss the game at the Bridge tomorrow. Benitez told Chelsea’s official website:

‘Sturridge on Thursday will maybe start training with the team so we will see what he can do,’

‘Lampard has trained with the group for two days, but they weren’t full sessions, they were light training sessions. He was fine but tomorrow is still too early. Terry was training with the physios and I have been speaking with him today but again it is still too early. We will speak again on Thursday.’
