Didier Drogba has returned to Chelsea, but sadly it’s only to train with the squad during the Chinese off-season, according to the Daily Mail.
Drogba enjoyed a hugely successful eight-year spell at Stamford Bridge that saw him score 157 goals in 341 games for the Blues. His last contribution to the club was scoring the winning penalty to secure the Champions League trophy back in May before making a free transfer move to Shanghai Shenhuain in the summer.
With the Chinese season now over, the 34-year-old has taken the opportunity to return to West London to maintain his fitness ahead of the African Cup of Nations, where he will captain the Ivory Coast.
There was talk of Drogba returning to Chelsea on a short-term loan deal but those hopes were dashed when FIFA rejected his application to make the move outside of the official transfer window.
So Blues fans will have to make do with knowing he’s back training with the club and passing on his experience to some of the youngster members of the squad.
