Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed the club have held positive contract talks with defender Bacary Sagna but admitted he’s growing increasingly frustrated over the lack of movement with Theo Walcott, according to Sky Sports.

French right back Sagna has 18 months left on his current deal but Sky Sports report he was left disappointed with our offer of just a 12-month extension, with the 29-year-old said to be looking for a longer-term contract as well as an improvement on his current £60,000-a-week wages.

However, speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of this weekends clash with West Brom, Wenger insists talks with the player over an extension have been positive and he doesn’t understand the speculation suggesting otherwise. Wenger told Sky Sports:

“I do not understand these speculations,”

“He has one-and-a-half-years of his contract to go, and we are in negotiations with him to extend the contract which are very positive, so I am quite amazed by these statements because it is completely opposite of the feelings we have with the player, and with the negotiations we have about his extension.”

The boss was then quizzed for the latest on Theo Walcott’s contract situation and he admitted he’s frustrated at the lack of progress and after of months of negotiations, Wenger called for the attacker to make up is mind. He continued:

“With Theo, I have no news. I personally am not involved in that directly, indirectly of course yes, but at the moment we have not made any progress.

“Honestly, I am frustrated. Between the player and me it is all clear, he knows what he wants and he has to make up his mind.”

“We have been in negotiations with Theo for a long, long time, and we have not been late in our renegotiations with him.

“We always try to extend the contracts very early.”

Walcott is out of contract at the end of the season and Sky Sports report that there is speculation suggesting he could be sold when the transfer window re-opens in January if he doesn’t commit his long-term future to the club.

I think the closer we get to January the more obvious it is that Theo is going, whether in January or on a free in the summer. As Arsene says, negotiations have been going on for months now and if it’s not sorted by now it suggests there is a major divide between the club and players demands.

With Sagna we have more time and i can’t see him going anywhere until the end of the season, then the club will assess things if a new deal hasn’t been agreed. But i’d be majorly disappointed if we were to lose both Sagna and Walcott in quick succession.
