Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing Feyenoord defender Stefan De Vrij this January, according to Sky Sports News.

De Vrij has been with the Dutch outfit all his playing career after joining as a youth player and signed his first professional contract in 2009 before going on to make over 80 appearances for the club. The report claims the 20-year-old was persuaded to stay in the Eredivisie in the summer, despite interest from abroad, and was made captain at Feyenoord after Ron Vlaar left for Aston Villa in August.

However, Sky Sports understands that the Dutch outfit are now ready to cash-in on their star man – who has 18 months to run on his contract – and claim Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are all ready to fight it out for his signature when the transfer window re-opens next month, with Feyenoord said to be looking for around £8m.

De Vrij looks to be an excellent prospect and it’s no wonder the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, etc, are understood to be tracking him. He is already part of the Holland senior national squad and the fact Feyenoord made him captain at just 20 shows how much they rate him.

Will we see him come to the Premier League next month? Well Sky Sports believe there is real interest from a number of top clubs and the quoted £8m sounds like a reasonable price to me given what he’s achieved at such a young age, so it’s certainly a possibility. But as with most transfer gossip, it’s best to treat it with a degree of caution until something more concrete comes out.
