Super Pav? Or Russian Donkey?

Pav

Written by Lauren Coupe

Yes, yes I am sorry, the Russian donkey jokes are getting boring now…we all know Harry adopted one…but after seeing Pav’s what can only be described as ‘frustrating’ display against the Young Boys last night in the Champions League qualifier 1st leg it has got me thinking ‘what type of player is Pav?’

For instance, he’s terrible at holding the ball up, he gives the ball away far too easily, he takes ridiculous shots from ridiculous ranges that always go blazing over, but after I’d just about written him off, telling my friends and family that Crouch should be playing instead, he goes and scores a fabulous thunderbolt of a goal!  It was amazing!  After all of his frustrating play, he comes up with the best goal of the game.

After a nervy end to the match, it ended 3-2 with Spurs only needing to now win 1-0 back at White Hart Lane in the 2nd leg – and Pav is who we have to thank for that.  However, I feel as though his failure to hold the ball up and his misplaced passes let him down…yes, he does score the odd ‘spectacular’ goal here and there, but in my opinion he hasn’t got the skills to be able to play for a whole 90 minutes.

I think he could be a super sub maybe, coming on for the last 10 minutes and scoring a blinder – we all know he certainly has the ability to do that.  Should he start the 2nd leg?  For me he is neither ‘super’ or ‘donkey’ … he’s a ‘saviour’.
