After seeing our Boxing Day clash with West Ham postponed, Arsenal get back to Premier League action on Saturday evening as we welcome Newcastle United to the Emirates.

Ahead of the game boss Arsene Wenger has given an injury and team news update confirming we have no fresh injuries to contend with and he also gave the latest on Olivier Giroud, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby and Andre Santos.

French striker Giroud and Czech midfielder Rosicky both missed Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wigan through illness but should both be back in contention to face the Geordies this weekend.

There is also some positive news on Diaby, who has been missing for several weeks, with Wenger revealing that the midfielder is due to return to training next week along with left-back Santos who is recovering from a stomach injury.

Arsene now only has Lukasz Fabianski on the treatment table and he’s claimed the improving health of the squad is down to the hard work he and his team put in behind the scenes.  The boss told Arsenal’s official website:

on the latest updates…

We should not have any new injuries from our last game. Giroud and Rosicky should be available again. They were sick at Wigan

on Abou Diaby and Andre Santos…

They should be coming back into training with the squad next week.

on the injury situation with only Fabianski out…

It is unusual, especially at this period of the season. It is down to the continuing good work we are doing behind the scenes at the Club. We hope that it continues because it is important to go into January with a full squad and we will be losing Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations.

So the squad is looking in good shape heading into January but I still feel we need to make some additions during the transfer window, with a striker and defensive midfielder required in my opinion. Let’s see what Arsene brings…
