With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with a Real Madrid striker.
Chelsea are weighing-up a £24m (€30m) move for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The report claims that Blues owner Roman Abramovich is willing to provide funds for a big-name striker and Higuain is understood to be a target, but the European champions may have to wait until the summer if they are to land the Argentinean hitman.
Interim boss Rafa Benitez has been forced to rely heavily on Fernando Torres this season due to a lack of alternatives at Stamford Bridge. The only other recognised striker on the books at Chelsea was Daniel Sturridge but the 23-year-old sealed a move to Liverpool on Wednesday, leaving the Londoners desperately short of options up front.
Benitez has moved for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba with the Mirror suggesting the striker is set to make a £7m move to the Bridge if he can successfully negotiate a medical today, but the Senegal international may not be regarded as the ‘big-name’ signing that Abramovich is understood to want.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao in recent months but the Daily Mail claim the Colombian will remain in La Liga until at least the end of the season which may have lead to the Blues looking at alternatives.

Higuain has fallen behind Karim Benzema in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order so may be open to a move but Spanish outlet AS claim it’s unlikely Madrid would be willing to let the striker go mid-season so the Blues may have to wait until the summer if they’re to have any chance of signing the 25-year-old.
