Chelsea play the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi final on Wednesday night as they welcome Swansea City to Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of the game, interim boss Rafa Benitez has given a team and injury news update including the latest on captain John Terry and goalkeeper Petr Cech, as well as confirming Nigerian duo Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel will be unavailable for the foreseeable future due to their involvement in the African Cup of Nations.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Benitez revealed he has no fresh injury worries for the Swansea game but the Blues will continue to be without the services of first choice goalkeeper Cech who continues to nurse a groin problem.

However, there is more positive news on skipper Terry who is edging closer to a first team comeback after training well last week and could feature for the under-21 squad on Thursday.

‘We don’t have any new problems,’ he said. ‘The good news is that Terry has been training and we are considering playing him for the Under-21s on Thursday, we will have to see how he feels.

‘Hopefully he can play some minutes in the short-term. It’s a positive as before he was just doing the warm up, he’s getting closer but it depends on his reactions.

‘It will be a different kind of game, but if he is okay and can train the day after, at least we can start considering him as an option.’ Benitez told chelseafc.com

If Terry continues to progress this week there is an outside chance he may be fit enough to face Stoke City at the Britannia on Saturday. But before then, Chelsea have the small matter of a semi-final to contend. We’ll have a full match preview up shortly.
