Manchester United have been told they will need to improve their £6m offer if they want to land Wilfried Zaha with Arsenal said to be weighing up a bid of their own, according the Daily Mail.

United chief executive David Gill confirmed on Wednesday that the club were interested in the 20-year-old winger but claimed a deal was far from being completed. He also revealed that even if they did agree terms with Crystal Palace, the player would remain with the Championship side until the summer.

‘He is one of the players that we are looking at.

‘That is all I will say at the moment. I’ve been in football long enough to say that is not done until it’s done. He’s one of the players we are looking at, but it is far from done.’

‘Even if we did do something with Wilfried, that would be for the summer,’ Gill is quoted as saying by the Mail

The Daily Mail claim that United have offered to pay £6m up-front with a further £6m in add-ons and performance related payments running over the course of Zaha’s contract, with the Manchester giants also willing to loan Zaha back for the rest of the season as well as agree to send some of their more promising youngsters on loan to the London club.

However, the report suggests that Palace co-owner Steve Parish has told Sir Alex Ferguson he will need to up their bid for a player they originally valued at nearer £20m.

The Mail also claim that Arsenal could yet enter the bidding and are weighing up a move of their own, with the player understood to be an Arsenal fan and may find it difficult to turn down a move to the Emirates should the north London club come calling.

With Palace pushing for promotion to the Premier League, they are understandably desperate to keep hold of him until the summer and I feel it’s probably best for the player as well.

If either Arsenal or United do agree a deal to sign him, he’s unlikely to get a lot of playing time at the Premier League giants so it’s probably best if he stays at Palace for the rest of the season and links up with his new club in the summer.

However, Zaha remains a Crystal Palace player for now and it seems any deal is still a long way off.  Will United up their offer? Will Arsenal enter the bidding with a late move of their own? Watch this space.
