It looks like the boss is going to keep us waiting for new signings after hinting he will make his moves in the market during the final week, or possibly even few days, of the January transfer window.

Despite being linked to a whole host of names in recent weeks, we’ve yet to bring in any new faces to the Emirates with two weeks remaining until the window slams shut.

Speaking to Arsenal.com today, Arsene Wenger has hinted that he is waiting until the final stages of the month to make his moves as he believes that’s when 90% of the deals are done due to the prices being driven down.

“The prices go always up at the start of the transfer window and go down in the last week,”

“Sometimes as well they go up in the last week but it depends. Most of the time they go down. You know that 90 per cent of transfer activity happens in the last week if not in the last 48 hours.”

Wenger told Arsenal.com

Typical Arsene, waiting until the last minute to try and bag himself a bargain. I’ve never been a fan of this myself. I really think it’s counter-productive in the end. If we need players, which we clearly do, and we play seven games in January, wouldn’t it be smarter to have those new players on board and contributing to the team as soon as possible? Even if it meant we paid a few extra million for them?

If Wenger had gone out and conducted his business early, who knows, we may have beaten Swansea first time around or got something from the City game and we would be stronger going into crunch games with Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool. Chelsea got Ba in early and he’s scored 3 in 3, Liverpool got Sturridge in early and he’s got 2 in 2. I just can’t see how it doesn’t make sense to try and get your targets in as early as possible so they can get settled asap.

But as long as the boss brings in the right players in the end, I’ll be happy. The club’s official website suggests there will be ‘significant movement’ in the coming weeks but we’ll have to see if this comes to fruition. A defensive midfielder, versatile defender and a striker are needed in my opinion but I think we’ll be lucky if we get two in.

Wenger was quizzed on his interest in Edinson Cavani and Wilfried Zaha today, you can see what he said by clicking here.
