The father of Thibaut Courtois has denied the Chelsea goalkeeper has been approached about the possibility of taking over from Victor Valdes at the Nou Camp, according to Sky Sports News.

Current Barca No.1 Valdes has just 18 months to run on his contract with the Catalans but has confirmed he wont be signing an extension. Sky Sports claim the Spanish giants have already began looking for his replacement with Manchester United’s David De Gea, Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and Chelsea’s on loan goalkeeper Courtois all being touted as targets.

However, the father of the Blues stopper has moved to play down these reports insisting they have had no contact with the La Liga league leaders.

“At this moment there is no contract with Barcelona,”

“A few days ago Thibaut had contact with the goalkeeper coach of Chelsea, who will soon report on his progress at Atletico.

“When this is done, we will work with Chelsea talk about his future.” Thibaut senior is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News

Courtois’ agent, Christophe Henrotay, also confirmed the goalkeeper will see out the current season with Atletico Madrid before confirming there has been no contact with Barcelona:

“Thibaut will finish the season at Atletico. He belongs to Chelsea, we’ll see later but there is no contact with Barca.” Henrotay is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News

The Belgian international joined the Blues from Genk in 2011 but was immediately loaned to Atletico Madrid. After an impressive season he was sent back on loan to the La Liga outfit and has once again been drawing plaudits for his displays between the sticks at the Vicente Calderón this campaign.

At just 20-years-old, Courtois has plenty of time on his side to break into the Chelsea first team but after already establishing himself as one of the most talented young goalkeepers in Europe, it would be no surprise if he was attracting interest. Personally, I think Chelsea would be insane to let him go and I can’t see the Blues entertaining any offers if Barca do come calling any time soon.
