Liverpool are in the capital to take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday night looking to move level on points with their fellow top-four hopefuls.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has given Liverpool’s official website an injury and team news update ahead of the game with the latest on Glen Johnson, Pepe Reina and Jose Enrique.

Full backs Johnson and Enrique were forced to miss Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Oldham with hamstring complaints while goalkeeper Reina also missed the game at Boundary Park with a thigh injury. However, Rodgers has confirmed the trio are all fit to face the Gunners on Wednesday as he takes an almost fully-fit squad to north London.

Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com:

“We’ve got players coming back from injury, which will be good.

“Glen Johnson is back, Jose Enrique will be back and Pepe Reina will be back, so we’ll travel there with a strong squad and the mentality to get a good result.”

Liverpool currently sit seventh in the table, one place and three points behind Arsenal, but a full seven points off fourth-placed Tottenham and Rodgers knows the importance of a positive result at the Emirates if his sides are to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the champions league next season: He added:

“It’s a very important game. I wouldn’t say it was a must-win game, but it’s a game where, if we put yesterday aside, the team that has been playing of late in the league has got big confidence.

“We know it’s a tough game for us, but it’s a game we’re certainly going to look to go and try and win – and a game we’re capable of winning.

“On the day, we can go and win the game – there’s absolutely no question of that.

“We played Arsenal earlier on in the season and because of circumstance we weren’t at the best and deservedly lost the game.

“But I believe we’ve made improvements, both mentally and tactically, in our game, so it will be as equally as tough for them.”
