Chelsea Open Talks To Bring Mourinho Back To The Bridge

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has opened talks with Jose Mourinho about the possibility of the Real Madrid boss returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Some interesting news for Chelsea fans this morning with the Daily Mail reporting that the club have opened talks with Jose Mourinho about the possibility of him returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The report claims Blues owner Roman Abramovich wants to try and lure the Portuguese boss back to west London at the end of the season and has made tentative enquiries over his availability in the summer.

Mourinho is in the middle of his third season in charge at Real Madrid and after leading them to the La Liga title last season, things have turned sour at the Bernabeu this campaign. Madrid lost 1-0 to Granada on Saturday to fall 15 points behind league leaders Barcelona and there have been reports of in-fighting with senior members of the squad.

The Mail claim the former Porto manager is expected to leave his post at the end of the season and that will coincide with a position becoming available at the Bridge, with interim coach Rafa Benitez almost certain to leave in the summer after a difficult spell in charge at Chelsea.

The big question now will be whether Mourinho is willing to work under Abramovich again after the pair shared a frosty relationship during the final stages of his stint at Chelsea. Mourinho spent a hugely successful 3 years at Stamford Bridge and would surely be a popular appointment with the fans, but the Mail believe the 50-year-old’s decision over a reunion will be influenced by the amount of control he’ll be given over player recruitment.

Personally I’d love to see Jose back in the Premier League. He’s a great character and has been sorely missed since he left in 2007. Now that Pep Guardiola is ruled out of the running, a move for the ‘Special One’ would make sense, but only if Abramovich is willing to give him the control he needs to work his magic.
