Highly-rated Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has denied speculation claiming he will be used as bait to help the club land striker Radamel Falcao in the summer, according to talkSPORT.

The 20-year-old stopper is currently enjoying his second season on loan at Atletico Madrid after being sent out to gain more experience following his move to Stamford Bridge from Genk in 2011.

Many fans have high hopes for Courtois and expect him to be Petr Cech’s long-term replacement at Chelsea. However, talkSPORT claim recent reports have suggested the Belgian international may be used as a make-weight in the Blues pursuit of striker Radamel Falcao.

The report claims the European Champions have been heavily linked with a £45 million move for the 27-year-old at the end of the season and are understood to be willing to include Courtois in the deal to try and persuade Atletico into selling.

However, the keeper doesn’t believe Chelsea are willing to part with him just yet:

“I do not think that Chelsea want to sell me from what I hear,”

“Maybe it is true, maybe it is not. I did not expect to reach this level of performance.” Courtois is quoted as saying by talkSPORT

Those who carefully followed talkSPORT’s transfer rumours and gossip in January will be familiar with the name Falcao, as he’s been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months. The Columbian international has become on of the deadliest hitmen in Europe and has already scored 24 goals in just 25 games this season for Atletico Madrid, so would be an excellent signing for Chelsea if they managed to pull it off.

But it seems they may have to find another way to persuade Atletico into selling, as Courtois doesn’t seem to think he’ll be leaving west London on a permanent basis anytime soon.
