Manchester United are in the capital this weekend as they take on relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.

United head into the game boasting a 12-point lead over rivals Manchester City in the Premier League table and would extend that advantage to 15 points with victory on Saturday, as City don’t play until Sunday afternoon when they host third-placed Chelsea at the Etihad.

Sir Alex Ferguson should be confident of widening the gap with his side currently on a 14-game unbeaten run that has seen them take 38 points from a possible 42.

The hosts are in the midst of a relegation battle with Harry Redknapp’s men currently sitting bottom of the division, four points off 19th placed Wigan and a full seven points from safety. But Rangers will take heart from their performances against the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and City after they took a surprise 5 points from nine against the trio earlier in the season.

Team News

Ferguson will be without the services of Wayne Rooney with the striker set to miss the game after failing to recover from a sinus problem that kept him out of last weeks FA Cup win over Reading. Rooney is back in training but is not considered fit enough to take part this weekend.

Phil Jones is also out after picking up an ankle problem and he joins Paul Scholes on the sidelines. Ferguson made several changes for the Reading game so the likes of Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick are expected to be recalled on Saturday.

QPR’s big worry is over the fitness of striker Loic Remy. The Frenchman is struggling to overcome a groin problem and is facing a late fitness test ahead of the game.

Redknapp is able to welcome back Samba Diakite and Junior Hoilett and Bobby Zamora is also back in contention after a hip complaint but may only be considered fit enough for the bench.

The stats also suggest United will take home the three points with QPR taking just two points from the last 33 available against the Red Devils and we see no reason why this trend won’t continue on Saturday.
